Red Earth: Dapple and Deep

Hand spun singles yarn using the Red Earth hand-dyed wool tops. On the left, in Dapple, and the right in Deep.

The Red Earth colours glow, warm, grounded, and quietly radiant. I’m spinning two versions: the solid deep Red Earth, and a dappled blend that softens the tone with flickers of light and shade.

Side by side, they hum together, one earthy and rich, the other lighter, touched by sun. I’ve stripped the dapple into fine slivers, ready to spin into delicate singles. Each strand carries its own rhythm, shifting between terracotta and clay, like weathered soil after rain.

The hanks rest together now, deep beside dapple, warm beside warm, each one holding the memory of the dye bath and the twist of the wheel.

In the last photo, I’m holding them out, a small offering of colour and texture, an invitation to imagine what they might become next.
